Travel Tips: Discovering Verona

Verona, the city of love, of Dante and the monumental Arena, a Unesco heritage site and cradle of unique cultural treasures.

But, the city of Verona is not only this, it hides suggestive locations, breathtaking views and curiosities.

Reach the city in just 30 minutes by car or train from our Villa Rosa Hotel and set out to discover the most beautiful places in Verona.

WALKS IN THE CENTRE

Start your walk by admiring the most famous sights, from the Arena of Verona through Via Mazzini (the shopping street, #traveltipsalert: stop by the Benetton shop at number 41, go down to the underground level and discover the remains of an ancient Roman domus where a mosaic and a cistern are preserved) and Via Cappello you will reach the famous balcony inspired by Shakespeare's tragedy and touch the famous statue of Juliet in search of love fortune.

A few steps towards an obligatory aperitif stop with the city's most famous canapés at the Locandina Cappello and then continue your walk towards Piazza Dante and before climbing to the top of the Torre dei Lamberti, to admire the historical centre from above, #traveltipsalert: don't forget to pass under the statue of Girolamo Fracastoro, legend has it that the illustrious doctor threw the ball he had been holding for centuries at the head of the first honest man who passed underneath him, who knows if you'll be the first!

Before leaving Piazza dei Signori, have some fun unearthing the 'Bocche delle denunce segrete', the famous 'letterboxes' of medieval origin, who knows if any of the townspeople may have slipped some papers into them...

GASTRONOMIC BREAKS AND HISTORY

If your stomach starts grumbling, head for the Sottoriva area and enjoy typical Veronese dishes (Amarone risotto, boiled meat with pearà, baccalà and gnocchi) in one of the beautiful traditional osterie along the Adige river.

Refreshed and rejuvenated, walk across the Ponte Pietra in the direction of the Roman Theatre, admire the perfectly preserved remains of this ancient theatre, take the funicular up to Castel San Pietro and admire a unique panoramic view of the city of Verona. #traveltipsalert: descend on foot through the steps for an adventurous walk through greenery and history.

SHOPPING AND APERITIFS

Once back in the historical centre, a well-deserved glass of Valpolicella wine or a Spritz in Piazza delle Erbe, the right charge to dive into shopping in Corso Porta Borsari or the vintage boutiques in Via Stella.

A city for all tastes, enjoy and discover Verona!
